CASE STUDIES

NOMAD

Due for release in 2026, Nomad is a globe-spanning independent feature written and directed by Taron Lexton (TXL Films) and starring Leo Woodall, known for The White Lotus, One Day, Prime Target (Apple TV+), Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and Cherry. Filmed across 26 countries and all seven continents, the production embraces an ambitious, stripped-back filmmaking approach, shot entirely using natural light, a key creative choice that gives the film its raw, intimate visual language.

The production spent four weeks filming in Australia, where we provided on-ground production facilitation, supporting the Australian leg of this extraordinary international journey. Working with the TXL team was an absolute pleasure, collaborative, adventurous, and creatively driven and it was a privilege to be part of such a bold and beautifully conceived project.

LIMITLESS

Location Management

Our team served as the Location Department on Limitless, a National Geographic series produced in association with Disney+, hosted by Chris Hemsworth and directed by Darren Aronofsky. The series combines premium documentary storytelling with extreme physical and mental challenges, exploring human performance and longevity at a cinematic scale.

We delivered complex, high-control location outcomes across four episodes filmed throughout New South Wales. This included three months of intensive scouting across the Central Tablelands — from Coffs Harbour to Armidale — utilizing ground exploration, drone reconnaissance, and helicopter scouting to identify terrain that met the production’s requirements for scale, isolation, and visual integrity.

We secured and coordinated exclusive access to a range of high-profile and sensitive locations, including Crown Sydney, the Scenic Skyway in the Blue Mountains, Sydney Olympic Park, and the historic Quarantine Station. Extensive work within national parks and remote environments ensured each location could safely support demanding physical sequences while maintaining authenticity and cinematic impact. Our focus throughout was on aligning location, performance, and story to support a premium, internationally broadcast series.

TOYOTA YARRIS

Aerial Scouting: The Quest for the Perfect Dust Cloud

Of all my aerial scouting projects, one stands out for its sheer intensity and unique brief. The goal was straightforward but demanding: “We want dust, and plenty of it.” Most importantly, the client wanted potential locations scouted exclusively via drone.

I requested a professional drift car and driver to join me, and we spent three weeks tracking from Goulburn to Armidale, out to Broken Hill, and finally up to Lightning Ridge. The land beyond the Blue Mountains was bone-dry, offering a fascinating and challenging study in soil types. I spent those weeks analysing how different earth, from claypans and dry lake beds to grazing land, responded when a drift car churned through it. Every soil type had a distinct “signature” in the way it kicked up and hung in the air.

The project came through Spinnaker Films and carried significant pressure, with senior Toyota executives travelling from Japan to oversee the production. The shoot was nearly derailed by widespread bushfires across Coffs Harbour and Armidale, where key scenes were originally planned. Ultimately, Lightning Ridge was selected for its scale, dust, and visual drama. The TVC was successfully filmed there over five intense days, turning months of scouting and testing into a striking final result.

Extraction

Location Management

Extraction (released 2020) is a high-octane action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers, Infinity War, Endgame ) and produced by the Russo Brothers. Released globally during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film became one of the most-watched online releases of its time, resonating with audiences worldwide through its relentless pace and visceral realism.  A defining feature of the film is its ambitious extended “oner” action sequence, designed to unfold as a single continuous take. This sequence is central to the film’s pace and immersive intensity, demanding precise choreography and seamless integration of performance, camera movement, stunts, and location.

Set against the dense urban environments and contrasting landscapes of India and Thailand, Extraction relies heavily on location to heighten its realism and sense of immediacy. I was invited to join the Locations Department, led by Mary Barltrop, serving as Key Location Manager across both countries. My role involved managing complex, high-risk locations, coordinating large-scale action sequences, and delivering on-ground location operations to support a fast-moving international production across multiple territories.

FORTY WINKS

Location Management & Aerial Cinematography

I had to include this spot, as it remains one of my favourite TVCs to have worked on. There is a unique energy to smaller productions; the smaller the crew, the more hats you wear. For this project, I stepped into a multi-faceted role covering Location Management, Aerial Photography, and Camera Assist.

This project was a masterclass in efficiency: we had just 10 days and a crew of four to capture the vast beauty of the Australian landscape. Traveling light allowed us to access more remote locations, from Kalbarri and the Pinnacles in Western Australia to the coastal charm of Kiama and the Sydney cityscapes in NSW. We then headed south to Tasmania to film the stunning vistas of Hobart, Freycinet, and the Bay of Fires.

Our schedule was disciplined, primarily shooting during the “golden hours” of dusk and dawn, while spending our daylight hours surveying and testing for the next shot. It was a fantastic experience collaborating with the team at Resolution Design, specifically Director Tim Dyroff, Producer Richard Halstead, and Cinematographer Andrew Hewson. It was a high-performance team environment, and the end result truly speaks for itself.

WAR

War is a high-energy Bollywood action feature directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Yash Raj Films, one of India’s most respected and established production houses. Shot partially in Sydney, the Australian component of the film took place over a tightly scheduled multi-day shoot, delivering striking international scale to the story.

Despite the brief Australian schedule, the production was a pleasure to facilitate. Yash Raj Films operated with a highly professional, efficient approach, and collaborating with Siddharth Anand was both dynamic and creatively rewarding. The project also marked a welcome reunion with longtime colleague Ben Jasper ACS, the film’s Director of Photography, who connected me with Yash Raj Films to support the Sydney shoot.

We provided local production facilitation and location support, ensuring smooth delivery across all Australian filming requirements while integrating seamlessly with an experienced international production team.

Jack Irish - Philippines

Production Liaison | Jack Irish (Season 1)

In 2015, I spearheaded the Philippine production leg for the acclaimed Australian drama Jack Irish. Working alongside industry legends Andrew Knight and Ian Collie, I coordinated the on-ground facilitation for the show’s first major international storyline.

This ambitious shoot required navigating the unique logistical demands of the region from the high-density streets of Manila to the coast of Zambales, while maintaining the rigorous production standards set by the creators. My role was pivotal in bridging the gap between the Australian and Filipino crews, ensuring that the high-stakes narrative was matched by a smooth, professional production on the ground.

MAKE MY TRIP

Cinematic Landscapes & Creative Kinship

In 2017, MakeMyTrip partnered with Tourism Australia for a major promotional campaign titled “Awe-stralia.” Featuring Bollywood actress Diana Penty, the project was designed to showcase Australia as a premier destination for Indian travellers, focusing on the intersection of luxury, adventure, and romance.

I was invited by Tourism Australia to accompany the production company, Onions, provide on-ground support and aerial cinematography. Having a drone license allowed me to capture the scale of the continent, and it was a pleasure to reunite with their Creative Director, Veneet Raj Bagga. Veneet’s films effortlessly articulate his romance for the craft, a lifelong affair that has earned him a reputation for a unique cinematic language and captivating lyricism.

These smaller productions are a delight to work on. Travelling with a tight-knit crew of only six allowed us to move through the country with agility, giving me a fresh appreciation for just how beautiful, expansive, and cosmopolitan our own backyard is. The nature of this shoot meant we got to know each other incredibly well on the road; those long days in the field built a genuine bond, and I’m proud to say we remain close friends to this day.

ORANGE

Orange is a Telugu romantic drama directed by Bhaskar and starring Ram Charan and Genelia D’Souza, filmed extensively in Sydney and Melbourne as part of its international shoot. We provided on-ground production facilitation across New South Wales and Victoria for the Australian leg of the production, supporting a visually ambitious and logistically complex schedule.

The shoot involved a wide range of high-risk and unconventional sequences, including aircraft coordination, skydiving, hot-air balloon filming, action staged on a moving train’s coal engine section, and a lion performance executed against green screen. Working across multiple jurisdictions, environments, and safety frameworks, we ensured each sequence was delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with the production’s creative goals. The result was a fast-paced, technically demanding shoot that balanced scale, spectacle, and precision.
